Bowlers execute plan well to keep Chattogram flying high: Taijul

DHAKA, Nov 29, 2020 (BSS) – Gazi Group Chattogram’s experienced spinner Taijul Islam insisted the bowlers played a vital role in keeping the side unscathed in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup by executing the bowling plan well.

Chattogram so far played two matches and won those two with utmost ease. Both of the games, they won against two top favourites of the tournament—Beximco Dhaka and Gemcon Khulna.

However, their bowlers didn’t give any respite to the much-vaunted batting line up of Dhaka and Khulna as they dismissed both of the team below 100. While Dhaka was shot out for 88, Khulna was skittled out for 86.

Utilizing the platform set by the bowlers well, the batsmen earned a nine-wicket victory against both of the teams, to send a SOS to the other teams.

But it is not that the Chattogram depended on a particular bowler. In the first match, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat played a key role in victory, taking two for nine runs and in the second game, it was Mustazifur Rahman who unleashed his stock weapons cutter and slower in effective way to claim four wickets for just five runs.

Around them, the other bowlers like Nahidul Islam, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam dazzled in intriguing way to further bring up agony for the opponent batsmen.

“The bowlers are definitely bowling well. There is no doubt about it. It is not easy to take 2/3 wickets for 8/10 runs in T20. I think these are good aspects for us to win the game,” Taijul said here today after the team’s practice session.

“Bowlers maintained a line and length, which is key to the success. When bowlers bowl in right line and length, it is not easy for the batsmen to play. It was however our plan to maintain a line and length and we are successful in doing it so far.”

Not just the bowlers, Taijul gave credit to the batsmen also. According to him, they have batted well in the low scoring match.

“Winning by nine wickets means a good start to me. We had to chase less runs, that’s not the case. There were close to 100 runs. But our batsmen have batted very well. After a good start from Soumya and Liton, things got easier,” he remarked.

Taijul has changed his bowling action from time to time. Bangladesh’s former spin bowling coach Daniel Vettori changed his bowling action with which he is bowling now.

Taijul said he wants some more time to evaluate his bowling with changed action.

“I have just started. Now I don’t think there is a problem. But it is not high time to assess the action. However, what all I can say is that the new bowling action is not going bad.”
