Afghan forces kill 11 militants in southern Helmand province

LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, Nov. 28, 20520 (BSS/Xinhua) – At least 11 militants have been confirmed dead as government forces launched cleanup operations in parts of the southern Helmand province, said an army statement released here Saturday.

The operations, which covered parts of Nawa, Nad Ali and Nahr-e-Saraj districts, according to the statement, have led to 11 dead and two others injured.

Several hideouts and weapon caches of the insurgents have also been destroyed during the operations.

Without providing more details, the statement added that the security forces would continue to chase militants elsewhere in Helmand and the adjoining areas.

Taliban militants who are active in the poppy-growing Helmand and the neighboring Kandahar, Zabul and Uruzgan provinces have yet to make comment.
