Wash in Schools Project stands beside girls’ students in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Nov 24, 2020(BSS)- Wash in Schools Project funded by Water Aid Bangladesh stood beside the adolescent girls’ students of Palashbari upazila in the district and the employees of the project has been conducting menstrual hygiene activity to the adolescent girl students of 43 secondary schools in the upazila amid corona pandemic situation.

SKS Foundation, a local non-government reputed organization has been implementing the activity under the project since September, 2017.

Akm Abdul Matin, coordinator sustainability of the project, said all the secondary schools of the upazila remained closed due to COVID 19. As the students were absent from the schools for a long time due to corona outbreak, the project officials took step to keep the hygiene activity continued to the girl’s students so that a gap was not occurred.

Earlier, the project officials consulted with the UNO Md. Kamruzzaman and upazila secondary education officer(USEO) to continue the activity during the closure of the schools.

As per their opinion and settlement, the project officials took decision conduct the activity to the girl students of the schools.

Every day, the employees of the project are going to the houses of the learners and distributing awareness creating leaflets inscribed with menstrual relating instructions, to the female students to keep them physically fit and well during the periodical times from the project, he also said.

The project employees are also giving advices to the learners to maintain social distancing wear mask, wash hands with soaps repeatedly and follow health guidelines to check Corona side by side with continuing their academic studies and other co-curricular activities at home regularly, he also added.

After receiving the leaflets signed by the UNO and USEO, all the students are so much happy and expressed their gratefulness to the UNO, and USEO including the project officials for giving them remembrance about the activity, he added.

Sirajum Monira, a student of Dholvanga Girls’ High School of the upazila said, I had forgotten the matter, but the leaflet sent by the project officials were able to remember me and my class friends to keep physically fit. And Thanked the officials concerned for remembering them.

Most. Mukta Akter, a mother of nine grader student of Amlagachhi High School of the upazila said she never thought about the activity for her daughter amid corona virus. Now she would be serious to the implementation of the activity for her child. She also thanked the officials concerned for conducting such the activity for their girls’ children in the upazila.

Md. Mominul Islam, principal of SMB School and College of the upazila said, they were highlighted to know the activity and its proper implementation to the girls’ students of his academic institution during the current corona pandemic situation.

Md Mahotab Hossain, USEO, said, he is satisfied to do the activity for the girls’ students of 43 schools of the upazila during the closure of the academic institutes due to Covid -19.

Md. Kamruzzaman, UNO, said, the initiative had been taken for the girls’ students of 43 schools of the upazila so that they could pass their days and nights in good physical condition during the Corona pandemic period.
