COVID-19 cases rise to 13,780 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Nov 24, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rose to 13,780 today in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate has been showing a rising trend again during the last more than one week period.

Health officials said 55 new patients were reported after testing 368 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of the division on Monday.

The district-wise break up of the 13,780 patients stands at 3,406 in Rangpur, 724 in Panchagarh, 1,198 in Nilphamari, 917 in Lalmonirhat, 955 in Kurigram, 1,333 in Thakurgaon, 3,944 in Dinajpur and 1,303 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 84,625 collected samples were tested till Monday, and of them, 13,780 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 16.28 percent in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 12,631 as 42 more people cured on Monday at the average recovery rate of 91.66 percent,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The average recovery rate of 91.66 percent is currently over 5.63 times higher than the average infection rate of 16.28 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

The 12,631 recovered patients include 2,616 of Rangpur, 676 of Panchagarh, 1,154 of Nilphamari, 893 of Lalmonirhat, 923 of Kurigram, 1,169 of Thakurgaon, 3,687 of Dinajpur and 1,213 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of total fatalities remained steady at 256 in the division with no more deaths reported from anywhere on Monday.

“The district-wise break up of the 256 fatalities stands at 56 in Rangpur, 92 in Dinajpur, 28 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in Gaibandha, 20 in Panchagarh and 10 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at over 1.86 percent in the division.

“Among the total 13,780 COVID-19 patients, 64 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,631 patients and 256 deaths while 829 remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali said.

“Since the beginning, a total of 86,740 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 81,703 released and 5,037 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said everyone should abide by the health directives as the COVID-19 spread is showing a rising trend.

“Common people should wear masks while remaining outside to check the current second wave of spreading of the deadly virus during the winter season,” Dr. Lyzu told BSS.
