9,581 lactating & pregnant mothers get allowances in Narail

NARAIL, Nov 23, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 1,950 working pregnant and lactating mothers have received allowances in three municipalities of the district.

Maternity allowances were also distributed among the 7,631 mothers in 39 unions under three upazilas in the district.

District Women Affairs Office sources said, a total of 1,950 women received lactating allowance Taka 15 lakh 60 thousand per month in Narail, Kalia and Lohagora municipalities and 7,631 women received maternity allowance Taka 61 lakh 4 thousand eight hundred per month in 39 unions under three upazilas in the district.

Of them, one thousand and one hundred lactating allowance receiver women in Narail Municipality, 450 lactating allowance receiver women in Kalia Municipality and 400 lactating allowance receiver women in Lohagora Municipality.

Besides, 2,535 maternity allowance receiver women in 13 unions of sadar upazila, 2, 352 maternity allowance receiver women in 12 unions of Lohagora upazila and 2,744 maternity allowance receiver women in 14 unions of Kalia upazila under the district. Each pregnant or lactating mother received an allowance of Taka 800 per month up to 36 months as adequate diets for them deserve special attention.

District Women Affairs Deputy Director (DD) Md. Anisur Rahman said the mothers along with their infants were given necessary antenatal and postnatal healthcare services for maintaining their sound health and to produce sufficient milk for their growing babies. Comparatively poor women in our society received lactating and maternity allowance.

In cause of poverty they not to be deprived from nutrition food in lactating and maternity period. For this government provide the allowance for the poor women, he added.

Deputy commissioner (DC) Anjuman Ara told that the lactating mothers need special care, more nutrition and higher calorie than other women as they need more significant quantity of energy as the mother have pivotal role to bring up the newborn babies with sound health, mind and attitude.

To ensure healthy nutritional status during pregnancy and breastfeeding, most of the foods the mothers consume each day should be high in vitamins and minerals, she added.
