SAVAR, Nov 22, 2020 (BSS) – Himel Barkat, a professor of Bangla department at Jahangirnagar University (JU), died of a cardiac arrest at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital in the capital in the early hours of today.
He was 42.
Himel Barkat, also a poet and younger brother of noted poet late Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah, breathed his last around 4.30am today while undergoing treatment at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital in the capital, said Professor Dr. Nahid Haque, chairman of JU Bangla Department.
JU Vice-Chancellor professor Farzana Islam expressed deep shock at the death of Himel Barkat.
In a condolence message, she said that the untimely death of Himel Barkat is an irreparable loss to Bengali literature and the university.
The JU VC also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
