Experts for laboratories to maintain standard of lubricant oil

DHAKA, Nov 21, 2020 (BSS) – Experts in a virtual seminar today stressed the need for setting up well equipped laboratories to maintain standard of lubricant oil as problems may be created like engine seizing and less cooling if the standard of the oil cannot be maintained properly.

“After food and medicine, lubricating oil is the most important thing. Therefore, well equipped laboratory is a must for controlling standard of the oil,” said Professor Ijaz Hossain, an energy expert and a directory board member of MJL Lubricant.

The government should pay attention to the industry for ensuring the quality of the oil, he added.

Energy and Power Magazine organized the seminar titled “Energy and Power talks: Challenges and Prospects of Local Lubricant Industry”. Energy and Power Magazine Editor Molla Amzad Hossen moderated the seminar.

Molla Amzad said the country’s demand for lubricant oil is about 1.60 lakh to 1.70 lakh while the market size is around Taka 5,000 crore. Though the market is small, the products of all well-known brands in the world are available here.

To keep the industry and transports smooth, lubricant is important, he said, adding, “The culture of laboratory sharing is a common scenario worldwide. So, we also can introduce this in our country”.

Consultant editor of EP Engineer Khandokar Khalek Sufi, Former Managing Director of Meghna Petroleum Mir Saifullah-Al-Khaled, Professor of Chemical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Dr Kazi Bayzid Kabir among others addressed the discussion.
