3 arrested in connection with Paltan bus burning

Dhaka, Nov 21, 2020 (BSS) – The Motijheel division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three people, who are allegedly involved directly in burning a bus in the capital’s Paltan police station area recently.

The arrestees are Md Leon Haque, 30, Kazi Rezaul Haque Babu alias Jim Babu, 28, and Md Azad, 28, said Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) AKM Hafeez Akhter at a press conference held at DMP Media Center today.

According to the official, some leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal, Juba Dal and Swechhasebak Dal took out a procession in front of the Naya Paltan BNP office at 12:30 pm on Thursday. At one stage, the procession became chaotic.

Reviewing the photos and video footages of journalists in print and electronic media and CCTV footages, it was seen that those arrested from the procession along with their associates set fire to the government staff bus in front of Tax Zone-10 office, to opposite of Paltan BNP office.

Eleven vehicles were set on fire in different police station areas, including Paltan and Motijheel, on the same day.

Sixteen cases were filed in this regard with different police stations of the capital. Detective Motijheel Division is investigating four cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel Police Stations.

During the investigation, the Motijheel Division was able to identify the three alleged arsonists by reviewing the video footages and information obtained from eyewitnesses.
