5 polythene traders fined Taka 1.26 lakh in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Nov 19, 2020 (BSS) – A mobile court initiated by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 has fined five polythene traders Taka 1.26 lakh at Natun Bazar in Badarganj upazila in the district for violating the Bangladesh Environment Protection Act, 1995.

Badarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Mehedi Hasan with assistance of the District Department of Environment officials conducted the court and also seized 1,135 kg of polythene on Wednesday, a press release said this evening.

The mobile court fined the polythene traders under section 6 (1) of the Bangladesh Environment Protection Act, 1995 for violating the Act by making stock and preserving the huge quantities of polythene.

The mobile court fined traders Md. Mohsin Ali Taka 24,000, Mokhlesur Rahman Taka 40,000, Saidul Islam Taka 25,000, Bijoy Mohanato Taka 10,000 and Mostafizur Rahman Taka 27,000 during the day-long drives.

Besides, the mobile court fined trader Mostafizur Rahman Taka 3,000 for obstructing activities of the mobile court.

“Later, the elite force handed over the seized 1,135 kg of polythene to the District Department of Environment authorities for destroying those as per law of the land,” the release issued by the Crime Prevention Specialised Company of RAB-13 added.
