COVID-19 cases cross 13,500 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Nov 19, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases has crossed the 13,500-mark amid a rising trend in the infection rate during the last one week in Rangpur division.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 13,546 with 53 more infections reported on Wednesday in the division,” Acting Divisional Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 53 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of the division on Wednesday at the daily infection rate of about 14.10 percent.

“The district-wise break up of the 13,546 patients stands at 3,325 in Rangpur, 716 in Panchagarh, 1,182 in Nilphamari, 911 in Lalmonirhat, 952 in Kurigram, 1,311 in Thakurgaon, 3,862 in Dinajpur and 1,287 in Gaibandha districts. Dr. Siddiqui said.

Since the beginning, a total of 83,208 collected samples of Rangpur division till Wednesday, and of them, 13,546 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of around 16.28 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 12,497 with the recovery of 31 more infected people in the division during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today.

“The average recovery rate currently stands at over 92.25 percent in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui said, adding that the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients is presently about 5.67 times higher than the infection rate.

The 12,497 recovered patients include 2,881 of Rangpur, 658 of Panchagarh, 1,146 of Nilphamari, 885 of Lalmonirhat, 923 of Kurigram, 1,161 of Thakurgaon, 3,637 of Dinajpur and 1,206 of Gaibandha districts.

Meanwhile, the total number of fatalities remained steady at 253 in the division where no more deaths were reported on Wednesday.

The district-wise break up of the 253 fatalities stands at 54 in Rangpur, 92 in Dinajpur, 27 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in Gaibandha, 20 Panchagarh and 10 in Lalmonirhat districts.

The average casualty rate currently stands at about 1.87 percent in the division.

“Among the total 13,546 COVID-19 patients of the division, 61 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,497 patients and 253 deaths while 735 remaining in home isolations,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the infection rate continued rising amid a declining trend in the recovery rate in recent days in the division.

He suggested common people for abiding by the health directives and wearing masks while remaining outside to check the current second wave of spreading of the deadly virus during this winter season in the division.
