8 killed, 5 injured in Chapainawabganj road accident
CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Nov 19, 2020 (BSS)- Eight persons were killed and five others injured when a paddy-laden vehicle, locally known as bhutbhuti, plunged into a road side ditch at Barek Bazar under Shibganj upazila in the district today.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibganj thana Md. Farid Hossain said the accident occurred when the bhutbhuti suddenly skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch at about 6 am.
All the deceased were farmland labourers belonging to Baliadighi area in Shibganj upazila and they were going to home with their harvest riding on the sacks of paddy. They fell under the sacks and died, he added.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, said the Officer-in-Charge.
Being informed, fire fighters rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
The injured were instantly sent to the Shibganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
