Mongolia confirms 18 more locally transmitted COVID-19 cases

ULAN BATOR, Nov. 18,2020 (BSS/XINHUA) — A total of 18 more locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 were reported across Mongolia on Wednesday, according to the country’s National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD).

“Today, we conducted 963 tests for COVID-19 and 18 of them were positive,” Amarjargal Ambaselmaa, head of the NCCD’s Surveillance Department, said at a press conference.

The latest confirmed cases are locally transmitted or people who had close contact with previously confirmed cases, said Ambaselmaa.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country reached 473, including 55 locally transmitted cases as of Wednesday evening.

Domestically transmitted cases of the virus have been reported in the capital city of Ulan Bator and provinces of Selenge, Darkhan-Uul and Govisumber.

The first case of local transmission in Mongolia was believed to be a woman whose 29-year-old husband, a transport driver, returned from Russia and tested positive for the virus four days after he was released from 21-day mandatory isolation on Nov. 6.
