Humayun for increasing export of MS Billet

DHAKA, Nov 18, 2020 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today called upon the steel entrepreneurs to provide an effective contribution to the national economy by increasing the production of export oriented MS Billet.

“Although the production capacity of the domestic steel industry is higher than the domestic demand, it is not being fully utilized,” he said while inaugurating the export of 25 thousands tonnes MS Billet to China on the initiative of GPH Ispat Limited, said a press release.

He suggested the entrepreneurs concerned to find new markets for year-round MS Billet production and export following the example of GPH Ispat Limited.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi also spoke at the virtual even as the guest of honour.

Among others, President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Mahabubul Alam, Chairman of GPH Ispat Limited Mohammad Alamgir Kabir, Chairman of GPH Group Mohammad Jahangir Alam and Additional Managing Director of the GPH Group Mohammad Almas Shimul took part at the discussion.

Humayun said Bangladesh is now an emerging economic power on the world map. “Bangladesh has already emerged as a fast growing economy in the South Asia under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In the last one era, Bangladesh has been performing good in all sectors, including industrialization, employment, poverty alleviation, creation of skilled manpower, economic empowerment of women, GDP growth, per capita income, export of industrial products, remittance inflows, foreign exchange reserves, infrastructure development and uninterrupted services,” he added.

He said industrial sector is playing a leading role in the development journey of Bangladesh.
