Cricket Australia shuts big bash door on Shakib

DHAKA, Nov 17, 2020 (BSS)—Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was denied taking part in Australia’s domestic T20 tournament Big Bash League (BBL) as Cricket Australia (CA) integrity police shut the doors on him for his past charges of corruption.

Shakib whose ICC-imposed ban expired on October 29, had his name put forward for the BBL, scheduled to commence from December 10. But the CA disallowed him as part of its zero tolerance against corruption in cricket, Australia’s Daily Telegraph reported.

Shakib is the only cricketer from Bangladesh to play in BBL, previously playing for Adelaide Strikers in 2013-14 and for Melbourne Renegades in 2014-15.

In a remorseful YouTube press conference one week ago, Shakib said that some people still have their doubts about him.

“It is not easy to know about everyone’s feelings,” Shakib was quoted as saying by Daily Telegraph.

However the 33-year-old all-rounder eventually was not offered a BBL deal this year.

Shakib was recently offered to play in the 2020 Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the Multan Sultans. He was being mulled as a replacement of Mahmudullah Riyad, who was tested positive for COVID-19.

But he couldn’t take part as his name wasn’t there in the players’ draft in the beginning.

Shakib last played any form of cricket back in October 2019 in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
