Farmers eye bumper T-Aman paddy yield in south-western region

JASHORE, Nov 17, 2020 (BSS) – Farmers have been passing very busy times with cultivating Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy in all the six districts of the south-western region during the current season as they are happy to see the bumper paddy yield.

The six districts are – Jashore, Jhenidah, Magura, Kushtia,Chuadanga and Meherpur.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials here said a target was fixed to produce 13 lakhs metric tons of T-Aman rice by cultivating the paddy on 4, 51,660 hectors of land in the districts this season.

Of them, some 4,17,404 hectares of land were brought under HYV (high yield variety) cultivation, 30,476 hectares under hybrid and 3,780 hectares under LV (local variety) cultivation, sources said.

Additional Director of the DAE, Jashore, Partho pratim Saha told BSS that following instructions of the government, different state-run organizations including BADC and BCIC have supplied improved quality Aman seeds and fertilizers to the doorsteps of the farmers.

Besides, different commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank and Sonali Bank have disbursed easy term loans among peasants to make T-Aman cultivation successful.
