DHAKA, Nov 16, 2020 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) and veteran freedom fighter Col (retd) Shawkat Ali.
In a condolence message, the minister said that the nation will remember the contributions of Shawkat Ali, who was elected Member of Parliament for six times and one of the accused in the Agartala conspiracy case, in expediting the country’s independence struggle and the great Liberation War and strengthening parliamentary democracy.
Hasan, also Awami League (AL) joint general secretary, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Shawkat Ali breathed his last while staying on life support at the Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka at 9:30 am today. He was 84.
He had been suffering from kidney, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and pneumonia.
