Verdict in case over murder of valiant FF Atik on Dec 2

DHAKA, Nov 16, 2020 (BSS) – A fast track court here today set December 2 for pronouncing judgement in a case lodged over the murder and burning body of valiant Freedom Fighter (FF) and former chairman of Konda union under Keraniganj upazila, Atik Ullah Chowdhury.

Today was fixed for pronouncing the judgement, but Judge Abu Jafar Md Kamruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 reset the date as the verdict was not ready yet, court clerk Shamsuddin told BSS.

The court on October 18 had also reset the date of judgement till today for the same reason.

According to the case documents, Chowdhury, also a leader of local unit of Awami League, went missing on December 10, 2013. His partially burnt body was recovered from beside a hospital in Doleswar area in Keraniganj, the next day.

Killers after murdering Atik Ullah Chowdhury, set his body on fire to hide his identity. But from the documents and Bank ATM card found just beside the body, Chowdhury’s family identified him.

Deceased’s son Saidur Rahman Faruk Chowdhury filed the murder case with South Keraniganj Police Station and police later filed charge sheet against eight persons.

The court on July 2, 2015, framed charges against the eight.

The accused are- Gulzar Hossain, Shampa, Ashik, Shihab Ahmed, Ahsanul Kabir Emon, Tajul Islam, Jahangir Khan, and Rafikul Islam. Of the eight, Shampa, Jahangir and Rafikul Islam are behind the bars.
