JASHORE, Nov 16, 2020 (BSS) – Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has taken a programme to help farmers cultivate winter vegetables in ten districts of the south-western region under Khulna division during the current Robi season.
The ten districts are – Jashore, Narail, Jhenidah, Magura, Khustia, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat.
DAE office sources said under the programme, a total of 77,228 hectors of land would be brought under winter vegetables cultivation with the production target of 18, 13,225 metric tonnes.
They said, of the total land, 15,965 hectares would be brought under winter vegetables cultivation in Jashore with production target 4,15,090 metric tonnes, 2,975 hectares in Narail with production target 63,368 tonnes, 11,010 hectares in Jhenidah with production target 2,53,230 tonnes, 3,650 hectares in Magura with production target 87,600 tonnes, 6,755 hectares in Kushtia with production target 1,58,743 tonnes.
Apart from this, 8,593 hectares of land would be brought under cultivation in Chuadanga with production target 1,97,639 tonnes, 4,050 hectares in Meherpur with production target 1,17,450 tonnes, 9,500 hectares in Satkhira with production target 1,99,500 tonnes, 6,910 hectares in Khulna with production target 1,48,565 tonnes and 7,820 hectares in Bagerhat district with production target 1,72,040 metric tonnes, sources added.
As part of the programme, the farmers have been cultivating winter vegetables by spreading improved quality seeds, they also said.
Meanwhile, the crop specialists and field-level officials of the DAE have started providing service to the cultivators following directives of the government.
Additional director of Jashore regional DAE Partho Pratim Saha told that the concerned officials have also started visiting rural areas of the districts to let the cultivators know about the latest methods of winter vegetables cultivation for getting best yield by reducing production costs.
He also said different state-run commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) have disbursed agri-loan to facilitate farmers to farm winter vegetables.
