Serve people with love and smile: IGP

DHAKA, Nov 15, 2020 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed today asked police to be more humane and ensure proper services to people so that no service-seeker gets harassed or tortured in any way.

“Police have to be humane to people . . . They must ensure proper services to service-seekers so that none gets harassed anyway,” he told the police, adding that “Serve people with love and smile.”

The IGP said this while exchanging views with constables, naek and assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium today, with DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam in the chair.

Additional IG Md Mainur Rahman Chowdhury, Chief of Special Branch (SB) Mir Shahidul Islam, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief Barrister Mahbubur Rahman and other senior officials were present there.

Reiterating the incumbent government’s “Zero Tolerance” policy against corruption, the IGP said corruption in police won’t be tolerated at all and police’s jobs are not for those who want to be billionaire by corrupt practices.

The IGP firmly hoped that no police man would take drugs, do drugs trade and maintain relations with drug dealers.

“We want to go to the people. Beat policing has been introduced by dividing the country into 6,912 beats. This will help make law and order control easier,” he added.

Dr Ahmed said transparency has been brought in the recruitment and transfer of police across the country.

Referring to the police services to people, which got appreciation both at home and abroad, the police chief said people’s confidence as well as their expectations in the police has increased.

The IGP told police that each police member should avail the opportunity as it is a rare scope as well as a matter of honor to work for the country and its people.

As a disciplined force, the police should give utmost priority to discipline, he said adding that discipline cannot be mixed with welfare.

Earlier, the IGP paid deep respects to police who had sacrificed their lives during jobs and also died of the COVID-19 in recent time. He prayed for their eternal peace and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
