Kali puja celebrated in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Nov 15, 2020 (BSS) – The hindu community celebrated Kali Puja, the second largest festival of them, in the six upazilas of the district on Saturday and today amid religious fervor.

In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the festival was celebrated in the district following the health guidelines.

Kali Puja, also be known as Shyama Puja, is called Deepabali or Diwali, the festival of lights which was celebrated in different temples including Bag Bitan Sangha, Seba Sangha, Kali Bari Mondir, Bijoya Sangha, Shib Bagmondir, Durgalaya Temple, Agrani Sangha, Loknath Mondir and different houses entire the district.

Usually Kali Puja, worshipping the Goddess of strength, wisdom and enlightenment, is celebrated at the night of Amayvasya of Bangla month of Kartik.

At the night of the festival, members of the Hindu community lit earthen lamps (Pradeep) at their houses and crematoriums in memory of their departed elderly persons.

Marking the festival, idols of the Goddess Kali were installed at different temples and houses in the district.
