Bangladesh follows Bangabandhu’s foreign policy: Momen

RAJSHAHI, Nov 15, 2020 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said Bangladesh has been maintaining warm and cordial relations with all countries of the world following Bangabandhu’s foreign policy as he addressed a meeting on “Bangabandhu’s Foreign Policy and Present Bangladesh”.

“‘Friendship to all, malice to none’ was the principle of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s foreign policy and Bangladesh has been following this policy over decades,” he told the function held at Rajshahi University (RU)’s senate building yesterday.

While speaking as the chief guest, Momen said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina runs the country by maintaining good relations with neighbours and other states of the world keeping Bangabandhu’s foreign policy in mind.

The minister said, “While many countries in the world are engaged in war and conflicts, then Bangladesh has no identified enemy”.

He mentioned the present government believes in resolving all bilateral issues through discussions.

He went on saying that the government wants a meaningful solution to the Rohingya issue through dialogue.

Momen also hoped that the Myanmar government will take back the Rohingya people to their country as soon as possible.

RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan welcomed the participants, while Pro vice-chancellors Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha and Prof Chowdhury Muhammad Jakaria, Treasurer Prof Mustafizur Rahman Al Arif, Registrar Prof Abdul Bari and Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman were present.

Prior to the meeting, the foreign minister visited the RU’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation by placing wreaths at his mural in front of the hall.

Later he also visited Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall and the newly constructed Sheikh Russel Model School.

He also paid homage to Shaheed Dr Zoha and martyred intellectuals by placing wreaths on Zoha’s mazar and at the memorial plaque of 1971’s Boddho Bhumi.

Dr Momen went round the RU’s Archives and Shaheed Smrity Sangrahashala and visited Central Shaheed Minar.
