‘CUET Sheikh Kamal IT Incubator considered as dream project of govt’s Hi-Tech Park’

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 13, 2020 (BSS)- Hosne Ara Begum, managing director (MD) of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, said Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator Project is being set up at Chattogram Engineering and Technology (CUET) campus aimed at creating successful entrepreneurs in the country’s IT sector, encouraging research and innovation activities at the university-level and enriching industry-academy collaboration.

“It is being considered as a dream project of the government to be constructed at a cost of around Taka 125 crore. The construction work of the project is nearing completion,” she added.

She made the remarks while exchanging views with project officials, engineers and contractors on Friday (November 13) morning at the CUET campus.

Later, she made a courtesy call on CUET Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Mohammad Rafiqul Alam at his office this noon.

Hosne Ara said the project is the first of its kind at the university-level to achieve the expected level of IT revenue by expanding Bangladesh’s global opportunities in the IT industry.

Earlier, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) with its Chairman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the project to set up Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator in CUET at its 26th meeting on June 8, 2017.

The project is being implemented under the supervision of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority. Under this project, the main incubation of a 10-storey building will be constructed on the CUET campus and a six-storey multipurpose building and two modern dormitories with 200 rooms are also under construction at the campus.

ANM Shafiqul Islam, director (Finance and Administration) of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, Syed Zahurul Islam, project director of Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator and Md. Mostafa Kamal, deputy project director, attended the view-exchanging meeting, among others.
