HC orders authorities to stop Talma river encroachment

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered Panchagarh deputy commissioner and upazila nirbahi officer to take steps to stop encroachment of the district’s Talma river within 72 hours.

The court asked the officials concerned to execute the order and submit a report on that within 15 days.

A High Court division virtual bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order after holding hearing on a writ filed in this regard.

The court also issued a rule, asking authorities concerned to explain why the court shall not declare illegal their inaction in protecting the river and why it shall not pass order to protect the river as par CS and RS Khatiyan.

The High Court asked officials including Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary, Director General of Department of Environment, BIWTA Chairman, Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and UNO to reply to the rule within next four weeks.
