Power from renewable sources to increase gradually: Nasrul

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said that power generation from renewable sources will increase gradually.

“Although 650.15MW electricity is being generated from renewable sources now but it is not enough,” he said after a meeting of the cabinet committee on government purchase.

The meeting also approval a project for setting up a 42.5MW power from Dhaka North City Corporation waste, to be produced by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC).

The state minister said electricity is being generated from water, solar and wind and process of generating electricity from waste is underway.

He said that currently 416.22MW power from solar source, 2.9MW from wind, 230 MW from hydropower, 0.63 MW from biogas, 0.4 MW from biomass are being generated.

According to the project details, China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) will establish environment friendly renewable power plant following EU 2010/75/EY guidelines.

Dhaka North City Corporation will provide 30 acres of land and 3000 MT of waste per day for the power plant. The government will purchase electricity from the plant at Taka 18.295 per unit on no electricity, no payment method.
