AL candidate wins Dhaka-18 by polls
DHAKA, Nov 12, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) backed candidate has been unofficially elected in the by polls to Dhaka-18 constituency as the concerned Returning Officer (RO) declared the result after counting the votes this evening.
Awami League (AL) nominated candidate to Dhaka-18 seat Mohammad Habib Hasan has been elected Member of Parliament (MP) unofficially defeating his nearest rival BNP-backed candidate SM Jahangir Hossain with huge margin.
Returning Officer (RO) and Regional Election Officer of the Dhaka Region GM Sahatab Uddin declared the result after counting the votes at 8.20pm.
Habib Hasan bagged 75,820 votes while his nearest rival candidate got 5,369 votes.
A total of 81,818 voters exercised their franchise using electronic voting machine (EVM) to elect the MP from Dhaka-18 constituency which fell vacant following the death of Awami League lawmaker Advocate Sahara Khatun at 11.25pm on July 9, 2020.
