DHAKA, Nov 12, 2020 (BSS) – The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem today said that the income taxpayers are getting extended tax related services like submission of income tax returns at the countrywide 31 tax zones as like the environment of tax fair throughout this November.

“It was not possible to hold tax fairs this year due to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But, submission of income tax returns as well as tax related services on priority basis are being provided at the tax zones similar to the environment of tax fair,” he said.

Muneem, also the Senior Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD), said this while addressing at a press conference at the NBR Bhaban in the city’s Segunbagicha area. Senior high officials of the revenue board were present.

He said although the tax fair could not take place this year due to the pandemic, but the NBR has tried its best to create the same environment like the tax fair at all the tax zones.

“The taxpayers are getting the necessary services, from the concerned circle offices,
that they usually get from the tax fair,” Muneem said, adding that the taxpayers this time are knowing properly their concerned tax circles while submitting their returns.

Answering to a question, he said the NBR would not extend the timeframe anymore for submitting income tax returns as the deadline for submitting tax returns is November 30 as per the income tax law.

“So, there is no scope for extending the timeframe for submission of tax returns after November 30 as per the law.” He added.

The NBR Chairman said the Revenue Board has collected Taka 66,555 crore during the July-October period of the current fiscal year (FY21) which was Taka 65,808 crore during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year (FY20).

The revenue collection in the last four months of this fiscal witnessed a 1.14 percent growth compared to the same period of the last fiscal year, Muneem said,
adding that this growth despite the pandemic situation would certainly motivate the revenue board further.

Replying to another question, he said all the taxpayers would be able to submit their returns through online from the next year while some 1,000 Electronic Fiscal Device (EFD) machines would be launched from December.
