PM takes responsibility of Rajshahi’s Khuki

RAJSHAHI, Nov 12, 2020 (BSS)- It was a dream coming true for a woman newspaper hawker of Rajshahi when she learnt that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came in aid of her rescue from woes.

Her name is Dil Afroze Khuki, a 60-year-old woman, and has been selling newspaper for the last 30 years.

On behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, local district administration has taken responsibility of Dil Afroze Khuki, only woman who has been selling newspapers in Rajshahi city for long.
“I visited her at her residence today and took measures to repairing and renovating it at once,” said Abdul Jalil, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked him to take her (Khuki) responsibility so that she can lead her life smoothly in the days to come.
Jalil said Khuki is a living instance among the women who are struggling in the country.
Apart from this, he said the administration has already employed workers who are cleaning her house and painting it.

The Deputy Commissioner also said State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam also sent gift items for her, including new clothes.
Dil Afroze Khuki, 60, a resident of Seroil area in Rajshahi city, buys newspapers from agents near her home and walks through the city streets and narrow alleys to sell those. She has been doing this job for around 30 years.

Local sources said Khuki is 10th among seven sisters and five brothers. She attended Bharateswari Homes boarding school in Tangail in the 1980s, and was married off, widowed at an early age.

Her husband’s untimely death came to her as a shock and Khuki decided not to remarry.

In 1991, she started working as a newspaper hawker by selling the now defunct Rajshahi-based weekly Duniya.
