‘Mujib Year’ trees will better country’s environmental: Shahab

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2020 (BSS) – Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin said the trees planted in Mujib Year will play an important role in the improvement of environmental in the country.

Shahab said this while addressing a press conference on the occasion of successful completion of one crore sapling distribution and planting program marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the meeting room of Information Department on Thursday, said a press release.

The minister said a total of 8 crore 61 lakh 62 thousand trees have been planted in the country through the Forest Department in the last one year, including the Mujib Year program.

These trees will play an important role in the development of the country’s environment, including the prevention of climate change, mitigation of carbon emissions, increase in oxygen levels and increase the tree cover of the country, it added.

Among others, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ziaul Hasan, Chief Information Officer Surath Kumar Sarkar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Administration) Md. Billal Hossain and Chief Forest Conservator Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury were present.
