Teams invest on young blood instead of senior players
DHAKA, Nov 12, 2020 (BSS)—The teams of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup showed their knack to invest on the young players even though they have the chance to recruit a plenty of seasoned campaigners from the players’ draft.
A good number of experienced players like Abdur Razzak, Shahriar Nafees, Enamul Haque Junior, Junaid Siddique who proved them a ‘go-to’ player in domestic circuit were drafted in the list. Even though they also showed their fitness is in right shape, they couldn’t attract the teams.
The likes of Enamul Haque Junior, Junaid Siddique even sprung a surprise by scoring more than 12 in the beep test. However none of the five teams showed their interest to rope in them.
Ashraful meanwhile is lucky to have a team when he was recruited by Minister group Rajshahi.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selectors kept most of the former national players, who are still playing and doing well in domestic circuit in the Grade D with a price tag of BDT 4 lakhs. Along with them, World Cup winning Under-19 players were also in this category.
After the players’ draft which was held on Thursday at a local hotel in the city, it was seen, most of the U19 players got the team, which clearly proved the team were interested to invest on them.
Beximco Dhaka roped in the players like Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Tanzid Hasan Tamim along with Akbar Ali who led the Under-19 to clinch trophy. Fortune Barishal recruited Towhid Ridoy and Parvez Hossain Emon. Batsman Mahmudul Hasan Joy, pacer Shoriful Islam and left-arm spinner Rokibul Hasan were acquired by Gazi Group Chattogram. Gemcon Khulna obtained Shamim Patwari. Minister group Rajshahi however is the only team who didn’t rope in any Under-19 player.
Gemcon Khulna spent the highest amount of money around BDT 1.14 crore to form their team through players’ draft. They had taken two players of Grade A—Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad, whose price tag was BDT 15 lakhs. Gazi Group Chattogram and Fortune Barishal spent second highest BDT 1.13 crore. Beximco Dhaka spent BDT 1.03 crore while Minister group Rajshai had lowest of BDT 1.02 crore to form their team.
