Two war crimes accused get conditional bail

DHAKA, Nov 9, 2020 (BSS) – The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today granted conditional bail to two accused in separate cases of crimes against humanity and war crimes.

The three-judge panel of ICT-1 headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam passed the order, granting bail to Daud Sheikh of Narail and Md Abdur Rashid Miah of Jhenaidah on health ground.

Advocates Abdus Sattar Palwan and Gazi MH Tamim moved the bail pleas for the two alleged war criminals, while prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chemon stood for the state.

“Daud Sheikh was suffering from urological ailments for long, while Rashid is a heart patient. We had pleaded for bail, referring to their poor health condition and the tribunal has granted them bail under the custody of their family and lawyers,” Adv Palwan said.

Prosecutor Rezia said the tribunal has set conditions, including staying in the capital and surrendering their passports, for the two accused.

The investigation agency of the tribunal on July 27, 2017, completed a probe report against 12 alleged war criminals including Daud Sheikh from Jessore and Narail. The probe body had brought allegations of genocide, murder, rape and arson against the accused.

The tribunal probe body on November 24, 2019 concluded an investigation report against three alleged war criminals from Jhenaidah including Md Abdur Rashid Miah, bringing two allegations of war crimes against them.
