21 drug paddlers, addicts jailed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, July 6, 2018 (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)
arrested 21 people here yesterday and they were sentenced to different terms
of jail each by a mobile court on charge of taking drugs and its paddling.

Teams of the elite force conducted raids in different areas of Rajshahi,
Chapainawabganj, Natore and Joypurhat districts and arrested 28 people for
their alleged involvement in drug trading or taking drugs.

Three of them were fined Taka 13,000 and regular cases were filed against
four others.

RAB officials today said the teams also seized 3.590 kilograms of ganja,
20 yaba pills, 191 bottles of phensidyl and 1,000 liters of local liquor and
some drugs-taking instruments from their possessions.

Later, the arrestees were produced before a mobile court. After
examining the circumstantial evidences, the court sentenced 21 of them to
jail.

Saiful Islam, Assistant Superintendent of Police working at RAB, said
different courts sent more than 310 drug addicts to jail after they were
found guilty during last 12 days.

He said anti-drug drives will continue here for protecting youths from
drug addiction.
