COVID-19 cases cross 13,100 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Nov 8, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases has now cross 13,100 mark in Rangpur division .

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 13,104 with 13 more infections reported on Saturday in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 13 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 112 samples in two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur and the daily infection rate is 11.60 per cent.

“The district-wise break up of the 13,104 patients stands at 3,152 in Rangpur, 693 in Panchagarh, 1,169 in Nilphamari, 903 in Lalmonirhat, 943 in Kurigram, 1,262 in Thakurgaon, 3,745 in Dinajpur and 1,237 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Since the beginning, a total of 79,677 collected samples of Rangpur division till Saturday, and of them, 13,104 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 16.44 per cent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients sharply rose to 12,153 with the recovery of 56 more infected people in the division during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today.

“The average recovery rate currently stands at 92.74 per cent in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui said, adding that the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients is presently 5.64 times higher than the infection rate.

The 12,153 recovered patients include 2,768 in Rangpur, 643 in Panchagarh, 1,137 in Nilphamari, 880 in Lalmonirhat, 893 in Kurigram, 1,087 in Thakurgaon, 3,560 in Dinajpur and 1,182 in Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities rose to 239 in the division with three more deaths, including two from Dinajpur and one from Thakurgaon, reported on Saturday.

The district-wise break up of the 239 fatalities stands at 52 in Rangpur, 86 in Dinajpur, 26 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in Gaibandha, 16 Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.82 per cent in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 84,103 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 78,753 released and 5,650 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

“Among the total 13,104 COVID-19 patients of the division, 58 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,153 patients and 239 deaths while 654 remaining in home isolations,” Dr. Ahmed said.

Acting Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Acting Principal of Rangpur Medical College Prof Dr. Mahfuzer Rahman said the infection rate continued declining amid rising recovery rate in the recent months in the division.

He specially suggested every citizen for abiding by the health safety guidelines and other rules , set by the government in maintaining the declining trend in infection rate to further reduce COVID-19 transmission in the division in the second wave of the lethal disease .
