Mashrafe can’t attend fitness test for the time being: Akram

DHAKA, Nov 7, 2020 (BSS)—Akram Khan, the chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Cricket Operations said that senior cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza can’t attend the fitness test since he is not fit at this moment.

The BCB made the fitness test mandatory for the players to make them available in the Players Draft for the upcoming Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

Shakib Al Hasan and 112 other cricketers have been asked to report for fitness test which will be conducted over two days—on November 9 and 10. The board had already announced the name of the 112 cricketers alongside Shakib but Mashrafe’s name wasn’t anywhere in the list.

“The report which we have got is that he is not fit now. So when he will be fit, we will consider his matter then,” Akram said.

“Since for the time being, he is not fit, he can’t attend fitness test.”

Former Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who was determined to return to cricket with the Bangbandhu T20 tournament, sustained a hamstring injury during a personal fitness training at the City Club Ground in the city on October 16.

Mashrafe was advised to contact the BCB doctors and physios for a scan.

But Mashrafe who didn’t play any kind of cricket after stepping down from the ODI captaincy in last March is now in self quarantine after his daughter Humaira Mortaza and son Sahel Mortaza were found positive for Covid-19.
