Strengthening multipurpose cooperatives activities stressed

RANGPUR, Nov 7, 2020 (BSS) – Officials at a discussion here today stressed on strengthening activities of multipurpose cooperatives activities to enhance productivity in every sector and benefit rural people by cutting poverty.

They made the observation at the discussion organised by Divisional Cooperatives Office at Town Hall auditorium here in observance of the 49th National Cooperative Day- 2020 with the theme of ‘Philosophy of Bangabandhu, Development in Cooperatives.’

Earlier, Divisional Commissioner Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan launched observance of the day by hoisting the national flag as the chief guest.

Government officials and employees and activists of different cooperative organisations, civil society members and local elite were present on the occasions abiding by the health directives in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan and Additional Police Abu Maruf Hossain addressed the occasion as special guests.

Joint Registrar of Divisional Cooperatives Office Abul Basher delivered a welcome speech in the discussion presided over by Chairman of the Central Cooperatives Bank Limited, Rangpur Tushar Kanti Mandal.

Basher discussed huge successes already achieved by rural people through multipurpose cooperative activities in developing human resources to increase productivity.

“As a result of strengthening cooperative activities, good governance has been established in cooperative organisations assisting rural people in achieving self-reliance through self-employment, cottage enterprises and industries,” he said.

The DIG stressed on enchaining disbursement of cooperative loans among rural poor to enhance productivity and achieve all targets of the sustainable development goals for ensuring inclusive development of all people.

Alim Mahmud called for expanding opportunities to ensure skill enhancement training for unemployed rural youths through cooperative societies to turn them into human resources for alleviating poverty through income generating activities.

The chief guest called for bringing all rural people including small and marginal farmers, entrepreneurs and poor under cooperative schemes to eliminate poverty from rural areas to build a developed Bangladesh.
