RAJSHAHI, Nov 7, 2020 (BSS)- Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton today called for infusing dynamism into the cooperatives for freeing the nation from the curse of poverty and hunger.
He emphasized the need for finding effective ways and means to attain strength and prosperity in every sphere of national life with a view to making the cooperatives movement a total success.
Mayor Liton came up with the observation while addressing a discussion to mark the 49th National Cooperatives Day- 2020 as chief guest.
The Department of Cooperatives, District Administration and District Cooperatives Union jointly organized the discussion at Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Zila Parishad Auditorium in the city. With the theme of day this year is ‘Philosophy of Bangabandhu, Development in Cooperatives’.
With Deputy Director of Local Government Division Shahana Akhter Jahan in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Joint Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives Abdul Majid, Additional Superintendent of Police Ifte Khayer Alam and District Cooperatives Officer Saidur Rahman.
Mayor Liton stressed the need for strengthening the cooperatives movement everywhere in the society, saying cooperatives can play a remarkable role in the country’s development.
He added that if the cooperatives’ movement can be carried out properly, then the country will develop faster to materialize the spirit of the War of Liberation and ensure social security.
To mark the day some successful cooperative people were honoured with award as recognition to their laudable contribution to the field of savings and credit.
