National Cooperatives Day observed in Gaibandha.

GAIBANDHA, Nov 07, 2020 (BSS)- The 49th National Cooperatives Day-2020 was observed in the district today with a call for strengthening cooperative movement in the society to lead the country towards desired development.

This year’s theme of the Day was ‘Philosophy of Bangabandhu, Development in Cooperatives’.

The district administration and District Cooperatives Office jointly observed day through elaborate programmes .

A discussion meeting on the significance of the day was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) here with Additional DC-(General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat in the chair.

DC Abdul Matin attended the function as chief guest.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Towhidul Islam, General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, district unit Abu Bakar Siddique, Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah M asud Zahangir Kabir Milon and Sadar upazila Parishad Chairman Shah Sarwar Kabir and District Cooperatives Officer Md. Ferdous Rahman were present at the event as special guests.

DC Abdul Matin said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman recognized co-operatives as the second sector of property ownership in Article 13 (b) of the Constitution and called for turning co-operatives into a people-oriented movement.

The DC believed that cooperatives will play an important role in meeting the challenge of implementing the promise of ‘Amar Gram, Amar Shohor’ declared in the party’s election manifesto..

General Secretary of district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had recognized the cooperatives as one of the best weapons for the development and also dreamt of a pro-people cooperatives movement for improving the fate of the poor and under privileged people .

Other speakers said the cooperatives are playing important roles in women empowerment, including rural poverty alleviation and new employment generation.

A large number of upazila level officials, cooperatives members, social workers, NGO activists and journalists of print and electronic media attended the programs.
