COVID-19 cases rise to 13,068 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Nov 6, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases
rose to 13,068 in Rangpur division as 59 new patients were reported after
testing 374 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur
on Thursday.

Health officials said the infection rate stood at 15.77 percent in the
division yesterday whereas 31 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 326
samples on Wednesday and the infection rate was 9.51 percent on that day.

“The daily infection rate continued showing a declining trend during the
last three months, but it marked a rise on Thursday in the division,” Focal
Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr.
ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the 13,068 patients stands at 3,144 in
Rangpur, 691 in Panchagarh, 1,167 in Nilphamari, 903 in Lalmonirhat, 941 in
Kurigram, 1,258 in Thakurgaon, 3,731 in Dinajpur and 1,233 in Gaibandha
districts, he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 79,344 collected samples were tested till
Tuesday, and of them, 13,068 were found COVID-19 positive with an average
infection rate of over 16.77 percent here.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 12,072 with the
healing of 18 more people on Thursday as the average recovery rate stood at
about 92.38 percent in the division, Dr. Siddique said.

The 12,072 recovered patients include 2,768 of Rangpur, 643 of Panchagarh,
1,127 of Nilphamari, 882 of Lalmonirhat, 884 of Kurigram, 1,039 of
Thakurgaon, 3,547 of Dinajpur and 1,182 of Gaibandha districts.

The average recovery rate of 92.38 percent is currently about 5.51 times
higher than the average infection rate of 16.77 percent in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed
said the total number of fatalities rose to 236 with one more death reported
from Dinajpur on Thursday.

The district-wise break up of the 236 fatalities stands at 52 in Rangpur,
84 in Dinajpur, 25 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in
Gaibandha, 16 Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts. The average
casualty rate currently stands at over 1.80 percent in the division.

Among the total 13,068 COVID-19 infected patients, 58 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,072
patients and 236 deaths while 702 remaining in home isolations.

“During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 221 people were put in
quarantine at home or institutions and 58 others released in the division,”
Dr. Ahmed added.

Acting Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force
and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Mahfuzer Rahman said
the daily infection rate marked a rise on Thursday in the division where a
declining trend continued during the last three months.

“People should wear masks while remaining outside and sincerely abide by
the health directives to prevent a probable second wave of spreading of the
deadly virus during the winter season,” Dr. Rahman added.
