University Officers’ Federation demands uniform salary scale
DHAKA, Nov 05, 2020 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Inter-University Officers Federation today demanded uniform policies for the officers of all the public universities of the country and to redefine the initial pay scale of the officers.
They also demanded making it mandatory to appoint officers in all non-teaching posts including all departmental heads and to raise the retirement age of officers to 65 years.
In this regard, the leaders of the body submitted an eight-point demand to the University Grant Commission (UGC) at a program today at UGC office, with UGC member Professor Dr. Abu Taher in the chair, said a press release.
Secretary General of the Federation Mir Md Morshedur Rahman presented the written statement in the meeting.
The officers further demanded to ensure that the presidents and general secretaries of the officers’ associations of all universities can participate in the policy making meetings also to ensure officer’s representation in the syndicate, senate and regents board.
Their other demands include providing corporate loans at 4% simple interest within the shortest possible time, compulsory basic training for officers and implementation of regular thematic training and policies for higher education of university officials and implementation of past service experience calculation of officers.
UGC Secretary ((Additional In-charge) Dr. Ferdous Zaman, joint-Secretary of the Commission Jafar Ahl Jahangir, Director (Additional In-charge) of finance and accounts department Ms. Shah Alam and President of Bangladesh Inter-University Officers Federation Amirul Islam, among others were present on the occasion.
Terming officers’ demand logical UGC member Prof Abu Taher, in the meeting, said the commission would take necessary steps as per government rules and regulations, read the release.
The Vice-Chancellors of all public universities have already been requested to appoint the most qualified officers in all the official posts including the registrar, added Taher.
He also agreed on appointing officers in non-teaching posts and said no university can set its own pay scale. If there is a uniform policy for teachers, steps will be taken to formulate a uniform policy for officials as well, he hoped.
