Shakib eagerly waiting for Bangbandhu T20 Cup

DHAKA, Nov 5, 2020 (BSS)—Shakib Al Hasan is very keen to return to play cricket with the upcoming Bangabandhu T20 Cup, as he believes a tournament like this stature would help him to prepare fully for the International cricket.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Shakib himself wanted to return to competitive cricket with the Sri Lanka series. For this he came back to the country and had taken an intensive training in BKSP under his childhood coaches Nazmul Abedeen Fahim and Salahuddin.

But when the Sri Lanka series was postponed, Shakib went back to the United States discontinuing his practice. The Bangabandhu T20 League is going to start in a few days under the supervision of BCB. Shakib hopes that the gap that was created to end the practice of BKSP earlier will be filled in this tournament.

“BKSP’s practice was very good. I needed that training very much. Although I wanted to do it for another 15-20 days. Since the Sri Lanka series did not happen, it did not continue. I moved to the United States. If I could practice for another 15-20 days, I would be fully prepared for the next 1-2 years,” Shakib said while speaking in a Youtube video where he took questions from fans and journalists.

“But since there is time and there is a domestic tournament ahead, I think by playing this tournament I can fill the gap of that 15-20 days of training.”

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon hinted that the five-team T20 tournament would be held from mid-November. However, there is possibility that the tournament may be delayed a bit.

The BCB on Monday announced the names of 113 cricketers including Shakib Al Hasan to attend a fitness test on November 9.
