Uttara Crescent Hospital raid: 3 fined Tk17 lakh

DHAKA, Nov 5 (BSS)- A RAB mobile court raided two pharmacies, including the Crescent Diagnostic and Consultation Center, located at Sector 15, Road No. 3, Uttara West Police Station, on charges of various irregularities.

The operation led by RAB executive magistrate Palash Kumar Bose in collaboration with Elite Force RAB-1, Department of Health and Department of Drug Administration was launched at around 8 pm on Wednesday.

During the operation, lab in-charge of Crescent Diagnostic and Consultation Center Nayan Roy, was fined Tk 10 lakh for conducting various tests with expired re agents. And for non-payment of the said fine, he was further sentenced to three months imprisonment, said the Magistrate.

Crescent Pharmacy 1 and 2 manager Shamsuzzoha was fined Tk 5 lakh and salesman Habibur Rahman was fined Tk 2 lakh and was sentenced to jail for three months for non-payment of the fines, for selling and keeping expired and unapproved drugs.

“A family has complained of the death of a newborn, including possession of expired drugs, surgery without doctors and inexperienced staff against Crescent Diagnostic and Consultation Center ,” said the RAB Executive Magistrate.
