COVID-19 cases cross 13,000 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Nov 5, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases has crossed the 13,000 mark amid a declining trend in the infection rate almost during the last three months in Rangpur division.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 13,009 with 31 more infections reported on Wednesday in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 31 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 326 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of the division at the daily infection rate of about 9.51 percent on Wednesday.

The district-wise break up of the 13,009 patients currently stands at 3,125 in Rangpur, 686 in Panchagarh, 1,165 in Nilphamari, 901 in Lalmonirhat, 941 in Kurigram, 1,257 in Thakurgaon, 3,704 in Dinajpur and 1,230 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 78,970 collected samples of Rangpur division till Wednesday, and of them, 12,009 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of about 16.47 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 12,054 with the recovery of 24 more infected people in the division during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today. “The average recovery rate currently stands at about 92.66 percent in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui said, adding that the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients is currently around 5.62 times higher than the infection rate in the division.

The 12,054 recovered patients include 2,760 of Rangpur, 640 of Panchagarh, 1,127 of Nilphamari, 880 of Lalmonirhat, 884 of Kurigram, 1,039 of Thakurgaon, 3,542 of Dinajpur and 1,182 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities rose to 235 with one more death reported from Dinajpur anywhere in the division on Wednesday. The district-wise break up of the 235 fatalities stands at 52 in Rangpur, 83 in Dinajpur, 25 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in Gaibandha, 16 Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.80 percent in the division. Since the beginning, a total of 83,736 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 78,528 released and 5,207 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

“Among the total 13,009 COVID-19 patients of the division, 53 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,054 patients and 235 deaths while 667 remaining in home isolations,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Acting Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Acting Principal of Rangpur Medical College Prof Dr. Mahfuzer Rahman said the infection rate continued declining amid rising recovery rate during the last three months in the division.

“To maintain the declining trend in infection rate and further reduce spread of COVID-19 infection in the division during the winter season, everyone should properly abide by the health directives of the government,” Dr. Rahman said.
