HC accepts Minni’s appeal for hearing
DHAKA, Nov 4, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today accepted for hearing the appeal filed by Ayesha Siddiqa Minni, challenging Barguna District and Sessions Judge Court judgement that convicted and sentenced her to death in the case lodged over the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif.
A High Court division virtual bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order and also stayed the part of the judgement that fined Minni Taka 50 thousand.
The court also passed the same order for another convict Mohaimenul Islam Sifat today.
Earlier on October 13, the High Court accepted appeals of three other convicts- Al Kaium alias Rabbi Akon, Md Hasan, and Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktok Hridoy.
Barguna District and Sessions Judge Court on September 30 sentenced six persons, including victim’s wife Minni, to death in the sensational Rifat Sharif murder case. The court also fined them Taka 50 thousand each.
The other death-row-convicts are- Rakibul Hasan alias Rifat Foraji, Al Kaium alias Rabbi Akon, Mohaimenul Islam Sifat, Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktok Hridoy and Md Hasan. They were also fined Taka 50 thousand each.
The court also acquitted four other accused – Rafiul Islam Rabbi, Md Sagar, Kamrul Islam Saimun and Md Musa alias Musa Bond.
Victim Rifat Sharif was hacked to death in broad daylight in Barguna on June 26, 2019. Police on July 16 showed his wife Minni, who was the main witness in the case earlier, arrested for her role in the gruesome murder.
