COVID-19:12,978 infected, 12,030 healed in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Nov 4, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 12,978 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 12,030 healed so far in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 12,978 as 29 new patients were reported after testing 188 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur on Tuesday.

At the same time, the number of recovered patients rose to 12,030 with the healing of 30 more infected people on Tuesday in the division.

“As of Wednesday morning, the average COVID-19 infection rate stands at 16.50 against recovery rate of 92.69 percent in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The average recovery rate is currently about 5.62 times higher than the average infection rate in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 12,978 patients currently stands at 3,116 in Rangpur, 680 in Panchagarh, 1,164 in Nilphamari, 900 in Lalmonirhat, 941 in Kurigram, 1,254 in Thakurgaon, 3,694 in Dinajpur and 1,229 in Gaibandha districts.

The 12,030 recovered patients include 2,756 of Rangpur, 635 of Panchagarh, 1,127 of Nilphamari, 880 of Lalmonirhat, 884 of Kurigram, 1,039 of Thakurgaon, 3,527 of Dinajpur and 1,182 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 234 as no more death was reported from the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am on Wednesday.

The district-wise break up of the 234 fatalities stands at 52 in Rangpur, 82 in Dinajpur, 25 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in Gaibandha, 16 Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.80 percent in the division,” he said.
Among the total 12,978 COVID-19 infected patients, 55 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,030 patients and 234 deaths while 659 remaining in home isolations.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 131 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 35 others released in the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 83,612 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 78,434 released and 5,178 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

After showing a continuous declining trend in the daily COVID-19 infection rate during the last three months, a little rising trend of the daily infection situation was noticed in the division in recent days.

“People should wear masks while remaining outside and abide by the health directives to remain safe and reduce the COVID-19 infection and check a probable second wave of spreading of the deadly virus during this winter season,” Dr. Ahmed added.
