Journalists for closure of private hospital over ‘wrong treatment’

CHATTOGRAM, July 5, 2018 (BSS) – Chattogram journalists today demanded
immediate closure of Max Hospital as the health Ministry investigation team
identified 11 irregularities in its primary investigation.

“The inquiry team found that Max Hospital was operating without approval
from the Directorate of Health Services (DGHS) and Bangladesh Medical and
Dental Council (BMDC),” said Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) General
Secretary (GS) Hasan Ferdous this while addressing a press conference.

Moreover, the hospital has been running without appointing sufficient
doctors, nurses, pathologists and cleaners, he said.

Speaking at the press briefing the journalists also demanded exemplary
punishment of the doctors for providing wrong treatment to a girl and
misbehaving with journalists.

The journalists alleged that the hospital was set up without any
registration from the government which was proved by the show cause notice of
Health Services Director for Hospitals and Clinics Prof Dr Kazi Jahangir
Hossain.

The CUJ leaders also demanded cancellation of medical certificate of
Bangladesh Medical Association Chattogram chapter secretary Dr Faisal Iqbal
and Max Hospital Managing Director Dr Liakat Ali for misbehaving with
journalists.

The press briefing was addressed among others by CUJ President
Nazimuddin Shyamol Chattogram Press Club (CPC) President Kolim Sarwar, Vice-
President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Shahidul Alam and
CPC General Secretary Suklal Das.

Joint Secretary of BFUJ Tapan Chakroborti, CUJ Vice-President Mohammad
Ali, Joint Sectary of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) Chowdhury Farid, former CUJ
presidents Mostaq Ahmed, Reaj Haider Chowdhury, CUJ leaders Sabur Shuvo, M
Shamsul Islam, among others, attended the press conference.

The journalist leaders called another protest rally in front of CPC
tomorrow afternoon.

Earlier, the Directorate of Health Services (DGHS) and Bangladesh
Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) issued a show cause notice to Max Hospital
authority for showing negligence in the treatment of a three-year-old girl.

Identifying 11 irregularities in primary investigation, Health Services
Director for Hospitals and Clinics Prof Dr Kazi Jahangir Hossain directed to
the Max Hospital authority to response this letter within 15 days.

A three-year-old child Raifa Khan, daughter of Dainik Samokal Chattogram
Bureau Senior Correspondent Rubek Khan, died due to medical malpractice at
Max hospital in Chattogram recently.
