Zia was involved in August 15, Nov 3 assassinations: Hasan

DHAKA, Nov 3, 2020 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said Ziaur Rahman was involved in Bangabandhu assassination on August 15 and four national leaders killing on November 3.

“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s close associate national four leaders – Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman – were killed brutally in jail on November 3 in 1975. In fact, Ziaur Rahman was deeply involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu along with most of his family members on August 15 and the jail killing on November 3,” he said.

The minister made the comments while talking to journalists at his official residence in city’s Mintu Road area.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad was present.

In the beginning of his speech, Hasan paid deep respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other members who were brutally killed on the fateful night of August 15 and the four national leaders who were killed on November 3. He prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.

He said Ziaur Rahman was working with Khandakar Mostaq closely before capturing the state power and Mostaq appointed Zia as the army chief after the assassination of Bangabandhu. Later, Zia rehabilitated all the killers of Bangabandhu and November 3 after capturing power by himself, he added.

He said the November 3 assassination was organized as a part of a conspiracy to make his (Zia) power smooth after Bangabandhu’s assassination, to make confederation with Pakistan and to push Bangladesh backwards along with the anti-liberation forces.

The murder has been tried, but many of the accused are still fugitives, he added.

The aim of the government is to bring back all fugitive killers who are alive and to execute the verdict for establishing a just society, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

For this, he said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has tried the assassination of Bangabandhu and the November 3 as well. Besides, many war criminals were tried and the trials of many others are going on, he added.

Hasan said the country has raised a new height under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh is one of the few countries which has been able to keep their economic growth high even the prevailing COVID 19 situation.

He said the per capita income is now 2064 dollar. “But, many people are not happy with this. Our political opponent BNP and their collaborators are not happy for the progress. The economy is growing as the country is politically stable,” Hasan said.

They are hatching conspiracy to create confusion among the people by spreading rumors on various issues in the country with provocative statements from home and abroad, he said.

The minister urged all to remain alert for the conspirators saying tough actions would be taken if anyone tried to spread rumours and create unstable situation through any media including social media.

Earlier, Hasan unwrapped the covers of three books named ‘1971: Tajuddin, Mujib Bahini o Onnaynnyo’ written by Rahat Minhaz, ‘Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh: The Quest for a State (1937-1971)’ written by Afsan Chowdhury and ‘Bangabandhur Rajnoitik Adorsho o Gonomaddhyom Bhabna’ written by Sheikh Adnan Fahad.

Publishers of the books Rabin Ahsan and writer Rahat Minhaz were present at the function.
