Youth gets life imprisonment for killing minor girl in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Nov 3, 2020 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced a youth to life-term imprisonment for killing a minor girl at Ghorsha Mollapara village under Mohanpur upazila in Rajshahi district over nine years back.

Additional District and Session Judge Abdus Salam found the convict Faruque Hossain, 19, son of Ayub Ali of the same village, guilty of the murder charge and handed down the verdict in his presence.

The court also fined him Taka one lakh in default to suffer one year more in jail.

The convict has also been sentenced to another seven years jail and fined Taka 50,000 in default to suffer six months more behind the bar on charge of concealing the deceased body.

Apart from this, he was sentenced to one-year jail and fined Taka 10,000 in default to suffer one month more jail on charge of theft.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convict youth called out Sweety Akter Bonya, 7, daughter of Samir Uddin of the same village, to a nearby vacant house while she was going to school. He strangled her to death there. Afterwards, he left the body into a safety tank after snatching her ear-ring on June 23, 2011.

Being informed, police arrested Faruque Hossain. Father of the victim had lodged a case with Mohanpur Police Station in this connection on the same day. Upon completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing him.

After examining the recorded depositions of 18 prosecution stories and other relevant evidences the court delivered the verdict this noon, said Public Prosecutor Shariful Islam.
