HC scraps bail plea of Tarique’s ex-APS in money laundering case

DHAKA, Nov 3, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today scrapped a plea of Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, former assistant personal secretary to BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, for bail in a money laundering case.

A High Court division virtual bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order, discharging a rule issued for Apu’s bail.

Advocate Syed Mamun Mahbub argued for Apu’s bail, while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood for the state.

According to the case documents, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on December 24, 2018, raided an officer at Motijheel City Centre and recovered huge stash of money, allegedly kept to influence the coming election and to use for carrying out subversive activities.

RAB-3 DAD Md Ibrahim Hossain on December 26, 2018, filed the case with Motijheel Police Station and Apu was shown arrested in the case on January 5, 2019.
