Truck rams into market, kills 16 in southwest Nigeria
LAGOS, Nov 2, 2020 (BSS/XINHUA) – At least 16 people were killed and seven
others injured when a truck rammed into a market in southwest Nigeria on
Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred in Akungba Akoko, in the state of Ondo, said Boboye
Oyeyemi, head of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, in a
statement reaching Xinhua late Sunday.
“Out of the 23 people involved, a total of seven people comprising three
male adults, three female adults and one male child were rescued with
different degrees of injuries and taken to the hospital,” Oyeyemi said.
It is not yet clear what caused the truck to crash into the market.
Reckless driving and poor roads are among the major factors fueling road
accidents in Nigeria.
