COVID-19 cases cross 12,900 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Nov 2, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases has crossed the 12,900 mark in Rangpur division where a declining trend in the daily number of infections continues during the last three months.

“The number of coronavirus positive cases rose to 12,912 with 28 more infections reported on Sunday in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 28 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 188 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur at the daily infection rate of over 14.89 percent on Sunday.

The district-wise break up of the 12,912 patients stands at 3,094 in Rangpur, 675 in Panchagarh, 1,160 in Nilphamari, 900 in Lalmonirhat, 939 in Kurigram, 1,250 in Thakurgaon, 3,666 in Dinajpur and 1,226 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 78,132 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Sunday, and of them, 12,912 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 16.52 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 11,982 with the recovery of 19 more infected people in the division on Sunday.

“The average recovery rate currently stands at 92.79 percent in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui said, adding that the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients is 5.61 times higher than the infection rate in the division.

The 11,982 recovered patients include 2,737 of Rangpur, 635 of Panchagarh, 1,117 of Nilphamari, 880 of Lalmonirhat, 884 of Kurigram, 1,037 of Thakurgaon, 3,510 of Dinajpur and 1,182 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities rose to 234 in the division with one more death reported from Thakurgaon district on Sunday.

The district-wise break up of the 234 fatalities stands at 52 in Rangpur, 82 in Dinajpur, 25 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in Gaibandha, 16 Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.81 percent in the division,” he said.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 169 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 26 others released in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 83,315 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 78,367 released and 4,948 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

Acting Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Mahfuzer Rahman said the infection rate continued declining amid rising recovery rate in recent times across Rangpur division.

“To reduce further spread of COVID-19 infection during the winter season, common people should wear masks while remaining outside and properly abide by the health directives of the government,” Dr. Rahman said.
