All countries, excepting some institutes at home, praise Bangladesh’s development: Hasan

DHAKA, Nov 1, 2020 (BSS)- Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said every country in the sub-continent is praising the unprecedented development of Bangladesh which has been shown in the report of IMF.

But, some research institutes in the country, which have now remained silent, are usually seen to be vocal in splashing negative reports, he told reporters at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat.

Earlier, the information minister addressed the closing ceremony of the tree plantation programme marking the Mujib Borsho organized by Khulna district administration through video conference from his ministry’s office.

Hasan said, as per the recent reports of IMF and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Bangladesh’s economic growth will be one of the best in the world this year. And, as per the IMF, the per capita income of the country will exceed India at the end of the year, he added.

The whole subcontinent heaped praises on publishing this report, he said, adding that the media of India, speakers at meetings and also the intellectuals are praising the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Not only in India, the same situation is also seen in Pakistan, he added.

Even, some, in Pakistan, are telling that ‘our brothers are moving’ to remove their own failures, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

But, he said, it is regretful that the persons who are working and researching on economy are not speaking anything. If, the IMF or ADB will give any negative report then everyone hears their speeches, he added.

He said they are silent on the positive reports that have been circulating across India. If something good happens in the country, would they be happy at all?, he questioned.

“Are they actually do research to present the country in a bad or negative way? Why they are now silent?,” he said.

Replying to a query, Hasan said, “We do not support anything that insults our Prophet Muhammad (S) in any way. There have been protests in the past against such religious harassment. It is never appropriate to hurt the feelings of any religion.”

He said the government has taken steps over the incidents of Patgram. This kind of heinous incident is not justifiable in any way, he said, adding that the government is determined to ensure exemplary punishment to those who have committed the heinous acts.

Earlier, in the function, the information minister praised the initiative of establishing botanical garden after the name of Bangabandhu at Botiaghat upazila by planting 1.20 lakh saplings just beside the Khulna city.

The information minister also congratulated all concerned to implement 19.20 lakh tree plantation programme in Khulna marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said the Prime Minister is coming up with a plan by 2041 and another plan by the 2021 on how to run this small country, how to use the resources.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has started the tree plantation programme through Krishak League since 1983 after returning home in 1981.

Hasan said the Premier transformed tree plantation programme into a movement after taking office in 1996. “As per the statistic, there was 10 percent forest land in 2009 which is now 17.4 percent. And it has become only possible for the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added.

Lawmaker Panchanan Biswas and Khulna divisional commissioner Dr M Anowar Hossain addressed the function as guests of honour.
